I qualified as a social worker in 2001. After working in India with an NGO as a Project Manager for three years, I moved to the UK to work with children and families.
Over the next 15 years I worked in frontline child in need and child protection services in a number of London local authorities. That work gave me a detailed understanding of how families come into contact with children’s services, various safeguarding concerns, undertaking assessments, how court proceedings run, and what children need from the adults making decisions about them.
I have been practising as an Independent Social Worker since 2021. Today I provide assessments, reports and family support as an independent social worker. I work for solicitors, local authorities and parents.
How I work
- Child-centred. I spend time with children of all ages to understand their wishes and feelings, and I make sure their voice is heard in my reports.
- Independent and impartial. My recommendations follow the evidence. I explain how I reached each conclusion so it can be understood and tested.
- Respectful of culture and language. I speak, read and write Gujarati and Hindi. Families can talk to me in their own language, and I understand the cultural context they are describing.
